Welcome to Rocket Learning’s Substack!

We’re documenting our journey to understand how gender influences children's experiences, aspirations, and potential from their earliest years. Alongside researchers, experts, and our own team of explorers, we're investigating an important question: How do children ages 3-6 begin to internalise gender biases, and how can we create more inclusive spaces for them to grow and learn?

We are focused on catalyzing ECE by supporting the government-run daycare systems to become high-quality preschool centers of learning, centered in their communities. We have partnered with India's Ministry of Education (NCERT), Ministry of Women and Child Development, 10 states, and MIT-J PAL to create, measure and scale impact. We currently reach 3 million parents and children under the age of eight, at the cost of $1.9 / child / year. Our status as the largest ECE civil society player in the country today positions us to play a major role in India’s acceleration of early childhood development.

Our hybrid in-person and offline model is designed to:

  • Deliver localised content through accessible technology, using resources available in every home, in partnership with governments

  • Equip caregivers with the knowledge and tools to support their child’s early learning journey, promoting positive behaviors and habit building

  • Transform the conversation around early childhood development, driving policy, budgets and structural improvements

Project IncludEd is our commitment to providing every child—regardless of their background, abilities, or socio-economic circumstances—with access to quality, inclusive education. Through this initiative, we aim to foster environments where children of all needs are actively engaged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. For the first phase of this project we’re focussing on Gender Inclusion, but our hope is to expand this scope in the near future.

We’ll take you along on this journey, sharing insights from our conversations with parents and Anganwadi workers, dialogues with experts, activities with children, and our own in-depth explorations. Our vision is to make this important discussion collaborative, accessible and actionable.

In this space, you can expect a mix of: stories from the field, breakdown of new findings, practical design principles, guest articles and more. Whether you're an educator, parent, researcher, or simply curious about how gender shapes our earliest years, we invite you to come learn alongside us!
